Noah's DA1 Portal
Hello!
My name is Noah Smith Higashi and I am currently a freshman at CU Boulder.
I remember liking art for a long time (such as doodling and comic book making back in elementary school), but my interest in digital art really took off during my sophomore year in high school, when I took a class on Adobe Photoshop. It gave me an introduction to the world of graphic design and how computers can be used for art making. I absolutely loved it.

Throughout the rest of high school I took all sorts of different art classes and gained experience making stuff with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Animate. I have also gained some video editing skills and programming experience for video games in classes outside of art.
I also enjoy making art in more traditional mediums, such as different sorts of painting. I even got a chance to try some mural making during my senior year. I also love taking photos of nature and my surroundings with my phone wherever I go.
In other words, my interests in art are still very broad and I haven't settled on any one thing. I love how digital art can almost feel like a puzzle: assembling different pieces together and learning how different tools work through trial and error in order to get closer and closer to the end product in your head. Regardless of medium, I love making things; I think the aspect of taking what starts as a small and invisible idea in your head, and transforming and polishing it into something large and real is what excites me about art the most. I’m not sure how art will fit into my future and whether it will be a career, but I know that I want to keep it as a large piece of my life regardless of how things play out.
I am excited to be back in an art class! I’m looking forward to making more stuff and learning new skills.
